Offaly Comhaltas AGM Brings Curtain Down On Busy 12 Months
Thursday, 5 January 2012
Offaly CCE held their AGM in Rahan recently. Here a very busy and successful year was reviewed. Some of the main highlights of 2011 were:
The County Fleadh was once again held by Edenderry CCE in May and was a huge success. The hard working committee organised and ran the whole event and a very special thank you to them for the dedication, time and commitment that they gave.
Following on from the Fleadh Cheoil Uibh Fhaile, they held a function in the Bridge House Hotel. A presentation of certificates and Fainnes were made to all who qualified for Fleadh Laigheann in the Comhra Gaeilge competition.
Fleadh Laighean, held this year in Portlaoise, was a great success as far as Offaly was concerned. Offaly secured a huge haul of medals where they did their branches and county proud across all of the competitions. They congratulate everyone who took part in the event and also to those who supported the musicians.
Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann was held in Cavan again this year. Once again Offaly were successful in taking home 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals which was a brilliant achievement for their young musicians. The Senior Grupai Cheoil from Edenderry won the All-Ireland which was a huge achievement and they wish to congratulate everyone who won medals.
Following on from the success in the Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann, a presentation was made to all qualifiers and winners at a function in the Bridge House Hotel in Tullamore in September. This year the night was broadcast live by their very own Padraig O'Dufaigh on Midlands 103. Many thanks to Padraig for all his efforts.
Once again, Mr. Jackie Hennessy ran the Scoil Mhichíl Ui Cheallaigh from July 4th to 15th with over 70 students attending either one of the two weeks. The 2011 course, the 10th year of Scoil Mhichíl Ui Cheallaigh in Killina was a successful and most enjoyable project. A big thank you goes out to Mr Jackie Hennessy, Kathleen O'Brien, Sr. Aine Walsh and his staff from the County Board.
The 2011 Summer Camp was organised by Claire McNally and her team from the Killeigh Branch. Yet again this was another successful event which helps to encourage our tradition of music song and dance in our county. Well done to all involved.
As in previous years the Rahan branch held their annual series of Sessiuns in Charleville Castle while the Brosna branch held theirs in Clara. Seven great nights of entertainment were had during the summer and well done to all involved.
A huge congratulations and míle buíochas was given to Tom Bourke and Eileen Swords for their tremendous dedication and hard work over the last 15 years or more on the county board. Their expertise and skills were greatly appreciated and the new county board officers and all the branches in the county would like to wish Tom and Eileen the best of luck in the future.
Offaly Comhaltas would like to wish all members a very happy and prosperous and musical new year. Further updates on forthcoming events for Offaly CCE in 2012, such as the new committee, sessions etc.. will be published early in the new year.
