Tributes To Mark Retirement Of Judge Mary Martin

Tributes to Judge Mary Martin, who has announced her retirement, will be paid by Court staff and members of the legal profession on Thursday morning before the District Court Sitting in Nenagh.
Judge Martin, who was appointed a Judge of the District Court in November 1983, has worked in the Kerry/Limerick, Laois/Offaly, Carlow/Kildare and Kilkenny/Tipperary Court Districts. and was one of the first group of women to be appointed to the District Court. She has been on sick leave since the middle of last year.
Mary Martin obtained her BCL degree at the National University, Dublin in 1971 and qualified as a Solicitor in 1972. From that year until 1983 she practiced in both Criminal and Family Law in the family practice in Nenagh. Known to be outspoken on occasions, Judge Martin had a particular interest in domestic violence matters, public order matters and reform of the Family Law Courts.
She has also a keen advocate of Restorative Justice and was elected Chairperson of the National Commision on Restorative Justice in 2007.
