Birr Groups To Receive 55,000 In Funding

MINISTER for Health Promotion, Marcella Corcoran Kennedy has welcomed the news that three Offaly groups shall receive €60,000 in funding.
Birr groups will feel the greater benefit of the funding as two bodies in the town are due to receive almost €55,000 between them.
The allocation of funding was announced on Monday by Minister for Health Simon Harris, coming under the Department of Health's National Lottery Grant Scheme.
Minister Corcoran Kennedy, the Offaly/North Tipperary Deputy, confirmed that Birr Mental Health Association will receive €25,000. The association which is run entirely by volunteers provides a wonderful service to the Birr community with their funding sought for the purpose of purchasing a new mini-bus.
Camcor Sports and Recreation Centre are to receive funding to the tune of €29,780. The allocated money is proposed to go toward renovation works on the premises which is located on Railway Road, Birr.
The facility is in desperate need of improvement works over the years. It is used by many groups in Birr and the surrounding area including the differing sporting bodies.
Minister Corcoran Kennedy stated 'I am encouraging everybody to get active and to get involved in fitness and sports in my role as Minister for Health Promotion. This funding announcement demonstrates the Government's commitment to supporting sporting activities in Offaly/North Tipperary.'
Meanwhile, The Irish Wheelchair Association in Tullamore will be granted €5,000 under the scheme. The money will be allocated to assist the association in running social events for its users.
Minister Corcorcan Kennedy concluded 'I would also encourage clubs and organisations in Offaly/North Tipperary to begin preparing for the Sports Capital Programme 2017 which is due to open in January. Clubs and organisations will be given a number of weeks to complete the application process, but they should start preparing for their application now.'
