Congratulations For New Judge

Thursday, 26 January 2017

JUDGE Catherine Staines' first act during Tullamore District Court's sitting on Wednesday last was to congratulate Birr based solicitor Bernadette Owens on her appointment by the President to the District Court as a new Judge.

Judge Staines stated she was delighted to inform the court of Ms Owens appointment as it was 'welcome news and she could not be happier that Ms Owens was selected for the position' and furthermore has 'no doubt she will succeed in her new role.'

Solicitor Donal Farrelly also spoke on behalf of his fellow colleagues passing on their congratulatory messages and well wishes to their colleague Ms Owens in her new capacity as a District Court Judge.

Ms Owens has acquired vast experience in criminal law, family law, conveyancing, probate and litigation which she has practiced from her base in B.M. Owens & Co. Solicitors in Birr. This coupled with her experience of the Legal Aid Board from 1995-2001 and her appointment as Guardian Ad Litem to the District Court in 2010 led Ms Owens to her new venture.

Ms Owens stated it was an exciting new chapter in her life and she was looking forward to it.

The announcement was made on Tuesday 17th January by the Government as two vacancies had arisen following the retirements of Judge John O'Neill and Judge Bridget Reilly in 2016.

Inspector Kieran Keyes and Probation Officer Alan Doyle were also in attendance taking the opportunity to express their congratulations at Ms Owens appointment.
