Lios Dearg Vintage Club Belmont Helping Haiti Housing Project
Thursday, 9 March 2017
LIOS Dearg Vintage Club Belmont, in conjunction with Haven Relief, will be hosting their Annual Tractor, Vintage and Classic Cars and Vans, Honda 50 & Step Through Motorbike Road Run in aid of Haven Relief Work on Sunday 9th April 2017 commencing at 2p.m. This will be Lios Dearg Vintage Club's second year to run this event and due to last year's success, the Club are hoping that this year's event will be even bigger and better!
Belmont resident Noel Ryan will be travelling to Haiti in April as a volunteer and this will be Noel's eighth time to volunteer, which is truly a great achievement. The Haven Relief Work in Haiti involves developing a Haiti where all its citizens have a safe place to live. Haven's mission is to build sustainable communities by helping with the construction of shelter and the provision of water, sanitation and hygiene.
In addition to this, Haven aims to alleviate poverty by providing education and training opportunities. The Project to date has built, repaired and renovated homes and shelters for over 20,000 people living in Haiti. This year Noel will be based in an area called Christianville outside Port au Prince, an area he has been to in 2011 as they suffered quite badly during the 2010 earthquake. Hurricane Matthew which swept through Haiti recently has left communities in even more dire and difficult circumstances than ever before. This will be the area of work that Noel will be doing as a volunteer so therefore it will be very essential and vital work.
As a result of this, Lios Dearg Vintage Club Belmont felt it was only right and proper to support Noel again this year with his trip to Haiti as a volunteer. There will be a vast array of tractors both old and new as well as motorbikes, cars and vans. A Step Through Motorbike is described as having a step through frame and a platform for the rider's feet, the most popular ones being the Scooter and of course the iconic Honda 50. Registration will begin at 12.30p.m. in Cahill's Bar providing participants with plenty of time to get their machines cranked up for the take off at 2p.m sharp. There will be no registration charge, however participants will have an opportunity to make a donation directly to the charity instead. There will also be sponsorship cards available by contacting Noel. All registered drivers will be entered into a draw for some great prizes on the day. Refreshments will also be served on the day.
The launch of this Vintage & Classic all Vehicle Road Run will commence at 2p.m. sharp from the village and the tractors will travel to the Kilmartin N6 Centre in Athlone. This will be a great afternoon's entertainment for all the family and the display of all the different types of very interesting vehicles always provides a great spectacle of colour, variety and motoring history.
The Road Run will then return and reassemble in the Village in the evening where refreshments will be served to one and all. This will be a lovely community event and in the process provide support for a very worthy cause which is changing the lives of the people of Haiti for the better. All are welcome and your support will be greatly appreciated. All monies raised on the day will be going directly to the Haven Relief fund and used where it is needed most to improve the quality of life of the people of Haiti. For more information or to obtain a sponsorship card for this very worthy event please contact Noel Ryan (087) 2613059.
