Roscrea Celebrates First Cré Festival In Style thumbnailRiptide Movement band members with members of the Hallissey Family at the Cre Music Festival in Roscrea on Sunday last.

FIREWORKS AND ROCK MUSIC were the order of the day in Roscrea last Sunday for the May bank holiday weekend as the town celebrated the inaugural Cré Music Festival, which saw internationally successful band 'The Stunning' perform at the Festival.

Despite colder than hoped for weather conditions, a great influx of people from across the midlands and farther travelled to Roscrea for the Festival, which was headlined by The Stunning and also saw performances by 'The Riptide Movement,' Jake Carter, 'Elmore' and 'Hot Fuss.'

Following the headline act's performance a great fireworks display lit up the town and the audience, which gathered at the Festival site in the playing field adjacent to the old Christian Brothers School in Roscrea.

There was also a host of hospitality facilities and fun activities on site, including food and bar facilities and the ample parking facilities allowed easy access to the Festival site for visitors.

Principal of Colaiste Phobal, Roscrea's Secondary School, Michael O'Connor spearheaded the setting up of the new Festival as a means of creatively creating funding options for the development of sports facilities for Colaiste Phobal.

Alan Kelly TD, Chairman of the organising committee, said 'It's great to see such an event being organised for a town like Roscrea who over the years had such a proud musical history with acts such as the Stunning having taken to the stage in the iconic Pathe Hotel.

'The music festival is a great platform for a community event and regional music festival to support the growth and development of sports facilities for Colaiste Phobal Roscrea and the community. I am proud to be part of the organising committee and hope to see this grow to become an annual event in Roscrea,' Deputy Kelly said.
