Banagher band release CD in aid of Cancer Care West thumbnailThe launch of the CD and download 'On Galway Bay' with all proceeds going to Cancer Care West

A BANAGHER father and son duo, Tadgh and Emmet Cox of 'Puca Lane', have just released a CD and download 'On Galway Bay' with all proceeds going to Cancer Care West - a charity providing support and services to those with cancer and their families from Galway to Donegal and nearby inland counties

The CD has two original songs 'On Galway Bay' and 'Dare to Dream' performed by Puca Lane and Mike O'Dowd and produced at Lakeland Studios, Glasson. Both songs are also available to download on itunes. 'On Galway Bay' was written by Michael O'Dowd, formerly gynaecologist at Portiuncula Hospital. The songwriter of 'Dare to Dream' was Tadgh Cox .

The CD was officially launched last week in Inis Aoibhinn Residence, University Hospital Galway by Tom Kenny, of Kennys Bookshop and Art Gallery,

The story of 'On Galway Bay'

Christine Patterson O'Dowd, formerly of The Pattersons from Donegal, recorded a version of 'On Galway Bay' at Lakelands Studios as a birthday gift for her husband. Her son Michael played the song to Tadgh Cox who developed the initiative of re-recording the track for charity. Cancer Care West were approached and gave the go-ahead.

The story of 'Dare to Dream'

The generosity of a family and others who fundraise tirelessly for charity gave Tadgh the inspiration to compose 'Dare to Dream.' A Clonfert man bravely battled cancer but died from his illness in his 40's. His wife and their five children completed a charity parachute jump as a fitting tribute to his memory. The funds raised were donated to cancer charities. The lyrics of the song are dedicated to all who have lost loved ones to cancer.

The CD is available from Kennys Book Shop and Art Gallery, Liosban, Galway, Inis Aoibhinn Residence, University Hospital Galway, Cancer Care West Support Centre, Seamus Quirke Road, Galway, Cancer Care West Support Centre, Station House, Pearse Road, Letterkenny and from Tadgh Cox, Banagher. It is also available as a digital download on itunes.

Puca Lane will also play a benefit night on Saturday July 1 in The Railway Bar, Banagher where the CD will also be on sale with all proceeds going to Cancer Care West.
