THE launch of the Women on Wheels (WOW) Charity Cycle took place in McIntyre's of Shannon Harbour on Friday night last..
WOW is a group of nine women who are completing a 600km cycle over six days from Mizen Head in Cork to Malin Head in Donegal from August 1 next.
Joined by family, friends, sponsors and supporters, a great night was had by all. Jared Madden provided the music and entertainment, Shirley and Dermot provided some food and a friendly welcome to all and the atmosphere was terrific.
Clare Lynch welcomed everybody on behalf of the nine women and spoke about what this challenge has meant to them so far and how they are looking forward to the event in a few weeks. She also thanked family members for supporting the women before handing over to Ann Clarke from Offaly Domestic Violence Support Service.
Ann spoke about how ODVSS provides information, support, outreach and advocacy to women, men and young adults affected by domestic abuse in its many forms and thanked the Ladies for their effort in highlighting this local service.
The WOW sold raffle tickets all night to the customers and the raffle had over 20 prizes which were donated by the nine women and some local business people including Trish in the Beauty Salon Banagher, Ann Byrne, Gerry Flynn Supervalu, Joan Hennessy Pharmacy, CGH Pharmacy, Bridie Lyons, Bernadette and Fiona Buckley, Cloghan. €740 was raised so a huge thanks is extended to all who bought tickets on the night.
