Not one tear in sight as Junior Infants settle into new surroundings

Not one tear in sight as Junior Infants settle into new surroundings thumbnail There were no tears from the new Junior Infants who started school in Rathcabbin last week and they were delighted to have their photograph taken with their teacher Ms. Walsh.

THERE is always an array of emotions on display when dropping the little ones at their first day of primary school.

Last week, the Tribune took a quick trip around to a couple of schools to see how some of the new Junior Infants were settling into their new and strange surroundings, marking a major milestone in their lives.

Many parents were beaming with pride while most of the new junior infants at Gaelscoil na Laochra, Biorra, couldn't contain their excitement as the budding students were dropped off for the first time at "big school" on Friday last.

Having been shown around their new seomra and mingling with some of the older students, it wasn't long before the Junior Infants got stuck in as a few parents remained in the background keeping a watchful eye for another couple of minutes on their little ones - just in case. But, there wasn't one tear in sight on the day.

We then headed off to the Mercy Primary School, Birr where there was a very welcoming and calm atmosphere. Already settled in having started school the previous day, their teacher Louise Phelan was busy helping the little girls get through "some school work".

A little bit of giddiness ensued as the girls chatted about how two of the girls had the same shoes on, a few hugs were shared, some gorgeous smiles and they were ready to have their photo taken.

Judging by the beaming faces at St Brendan's Primary School, Birr as they came out in a perfectly formed line, the junior infants here appeared to have already settled well into the school and the first day nerves were well and truly behind them. Relishing the opportunity to be outside in the autumnal sunshine, the new class were full of beans and laughter as they lined up for their photo in the Tribune.

Meanwhile, it was all happy faces amongst the new Junior Infants at the Oxmantown School, Birr as they busily undertook some colouring with the help of their teacher Ms Lynch when we popped in just after midday on Friday last.
