THE latest installment of the Bank Of Ireland Provincial Towns Cup will get underway on Sunday January 21 and the draw for the first round was made at the weekend.
Current Leinster players Adam Byrne, Tom Daly and Offaly's own Peter Dooley were on hand to make the draw with the Midlands clubs up against it early on.
Tullow will be looking to retain their crown following an impressive win over Skerries seconds in the final last year but even the champions are going to have it all to do with an away date with Naas seconds on the cards for them in the opening round.
Tullamore seconds have been drawn at home to Athy in what will be a big ask for the Tullamore men. They have good cup pedigree while the home advantage will certainly stand to them as they look to take a scalp in the opening round.
Moate based Midland Warriors, who have a strong Offaly playing base, have also been handed a tough draw with Leinster League 1A side Enniscorthy drawn to travel to Moate to take on Rob Connor's charges.
Roscrea will be on the road to Cill Dara RFC in another tough encounter while for the second year in a row, Edenderry will have to try and overcome Clondalkin in the opening round having gone down 26-23 to them in last season's opener.
Portarlington are the other local club involved but they have been afforded a bye into the second round along side Ashbourne and Longford.
The games will take place on Sunday January 21 with a 2.30pm kick off. The full draw is as follows (first named team has home advantage);
Clondalkin RFC v Edenderry RFC; Midland Warriors RFC v Enniscorthy RFC; Tullamore RFC 2nd XV v Athy RFC; Cill Dara RFC v Roscrea RFC; New Ross RFC v Arklow RFC; Wicklow RFC v Mullingar RFC; Dundalk RFC v North Kildare RFC; Wexford Wanderers RFC v Balbriggan RFC; Naas RFC 2nd XV v Tullow RFC; Portlaoise RFC v Navan RFC 2nd XV; Kilkenny RFC v Boyne RFC; Skerries RFC 2nd XV v Newbridge RFC; Gorey RFC v County Carlow RFC.
