Pedestrian dies after being struck by lorry in Ferbane

A 70 year old pedestrian died after being hit by a truck in west Offaly this week.

The collision between an articulated lorry and the male pedestrian occurred at approximately 7.30am on the outskirts of the town along the Ferbane to Athlone Road (N62) on Tuesday, January 2.

The man was seriously injured and taken by ambulance to the Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore where he was later pronounced dead. The lorry driver was uninjured.

The road was closed for some time to facilitate a forensic collision examination and was later re-opened on Tuesday afternoon.

The Gardai in Birr are investigating the single vehicle fatal road traffic collision and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information, in particular anyone who may have been on that stretch of road between 7am to 7.20am to contact Birr Garda Station on (057) 91 69710, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
