No burglaries in Birr Garda District this year so far

Thursday, 15 February 2018

THERE have been no burglaries in the Birr Garda District to date this year, the Tribune can reveal this week.

A Gardai spokesperson confirmed to the Tribune this week that there have been no burglaries in the Birr Garda District this year to date and a number of factors are believed to have contributed to these zero Garda figures.

It's thought that a number of high profile burglaries in the district in recent times have made people more aware of suspicious activity in their locality and they are reporting it more frequently.

This combined with the deployment and ongoing work since November of the dedicated Garda crime taskforce to deal with those suspected of being involved in burglaries and property crimes in the Laois/Offaly division, continued proactive policing and checkpoints in the districts has seen a drop in the figures.

According to the Garda spokesperson, this all "seems to be having a positive effect in district".

However, Gardai are still urging people to continue to be vigilante of suspicious activity, vehicles or individuals in their local community and to report such behaviour, no matter how minor, to the Gardai.
