BIRR Festival of Music & Voice 2018 is just around the corner! Following a very successful debut last year, the four day festival is back with another brimming weekend of classical music from Friday May 4-Monday May 7 in the Georgian town of Birr.
Performances include acclaimed soprano Cara O'Sullivan as well as internationally renowned pianist Finghin Collins, joined by John Finucane, clarinet, from the RTE Symphony Orchestra. Mezzo-Soprano Carolyn Holt gives a recital in the Music Room at Birr Castle, with special guest, Tríona Marshall, harp, for patrons and sponsors.
The festival incorporates the now well-established Trench Award, which provides a number of bursaries awarded to emerging classical singers/musicians. The six finalists include soprano, tenor, bass, pianist and oboe, with an amazing range of ability. An exciting addition for 2018 is conductor David Brophy who joins the judging panel for the Trench Award.
A choral performance by Birr Young Voices, 35 children aged 9-12 years, will take place in St Brendan's Church of Ireland on Monday at 3pm. This project, in partnership with Music Generation Offaly/Westmeath, is supported by the Trench Trust and is a year-round project adding new members each season.
For more details and to book see or call the Box Office on (057) 9122911. Supported by the Arts Council of Ireland.
