Legendary Irish cyclist Sean Kelly was in Tullamore recently along with local Special Olympic athletes Ryan Dunne and Chris Leigh to launch the exciting partnership with Special Olympics Ireland.
Special Olympics Ireland are excited to offer the opportunity to cycle alongside Sean as they gear up as partners for the sixth annual ýSean Kelly Tour of the Midlands Cycleţ starting and finishing in Tullamore, Co. Offaly on September 30 2018.
One of the most successful road cyclists of the 1980s, Sean Kelly competed in 193 professional races in total with nine classic wins under his belt. Sean Kelly said: ýThis is the first year the Tour of the Midlands will be supporting Special Olympics Ireland and I have to say I am delighted to be associated with such a dedicated and hardworking organisation. IÝve experienced first-hand the impact Special Olympics Ireland has not only on their athletes, but the athletes families, coaches and the huge network of volunteers associated with the charityţ.

The Sean Kelly Tour of the Midlands in aid of Special Olympics Ireland offers three events on September 30, catering for advanced, intermediate and leisure cyclists; starting with the 120km Kelly Slieve Bloom, the 80/90km Kelly Cut and the 5km Kelly Family Spin at 11am.

The cycling community has always been extremely supportive of our athletes and weÝre excited to be part of such a prestigious event that echoes the community spirit, determination and courage at the heart of the organisationţ
This Special Olympics Ireland event will be fully marshalled with plenty of support along the route, water and refreshment stops along the way and at the finish line and great bespoke event merchandise available signed by Sean himself.
Early bird entry is currently available at a cost of ─35, but donÝt delay, this offer is only available until August 1, at which point entry will be ─40 with the deadline for online entries ending September 25. Cyclists can register on the day of the event at a cost of ─50. All net proceeds from this event will go towards continuing the work of Special Olympics Ireland.
Anyone who fundraises ─100 or more will receive a signed Sean Kelly Tour of the Midlands cycling jersey.
