Offaly 6-9. Antrim 4-5.

OFFALY ladies footballers recorded a fine victory over Antrim in Clonbullogue on Sunday  in this , their second match in the Allianz National League Division 4.
In a match played in near perfect conditions the Offaly team ran out winners on a final score of 6-9 to 4-5. Playing with the wind in the first half Offaly got off to a flying start. A fifth minute point by debutante Emma Corcoran was followed quickly by a splendid goal from Team Captain Orlaith Heavey. A converted free by Kim Furey , a point from full forward Amy Kerrigan and a second point by Emma Corcoran,  was followed by a second goal, this time scored by Mairead Daly, another person making her senior debut. At this stage Offaly were in total command, with a display of fluid passing, fitness and accurate shooting that is a result of the level of commitment and training that is being put in. Two more goals and a point from Orlaith Heavey who turned in a very strong performance at centerfield, together with a point each from Kym Furey and Emma Corcoran left Offaly  4-7 to 0-0 to the good after twenty minutes.
Antrim, who until now had not managed to settle in to the pace of the game rallied bravely and with some hard work and determination notched up a creditable 2-1 leaving the half time score Offaly 4-7 Antrim 2-1.
The second half started in the same way with Antrim scoring another two goals and three points without reply to leave just 4 points between the sides before the excellent young Emma Corcoran pounced on a short kick out with 10 minutes to go and finished a fine solo run with a shot which found the roof of the net. The Offaly ladies took great heart from this score and finished the match strongly with a further two points from  Emma Corcoran  bringing her tally to 1-5 on the day, and a second goal from another excellent young player from the St Rynagh's Club Mairead Daly, to which Antrim could only reply with a point,  The Offaly Ladies Club would like to thank Clonbullogue GAA for the use of their Facilities.
