It was a momentous weekend for women's rugby in Tullamore, as Tullamore RFC senior ladies player Nichola Fryday received her first international cap against Canada last Saturday.
A large crowd of friends, family, teammates and coaches made the journey up to the UCD bowl on Saturday to witness the occasion in person. Having only started playing rugby with Tullamore a mere two years ago, Nichola just started her third season of rugby this summer. It's a fantastic achievement for her personally as well as the club.
Walsh Island native Niamh Kavangh was one of Nichola's team mates on Saturday. Although she now plays her club rugby with UL Bohs in Limerick, Niamh spent many summers playing tag rugby in Tullamore.
Speaking after the match on Saturday, Nichola thanked all her friends and family for their support saying it "was so nice to know ye were all there".
The game itself didn't go too well for the Irish Women as they fell to a heavy defeat but Fryday did play the full game as she looks to make a push to make the final panel for the their game this weekend against New Zealand.
