Drumcullen GAA Club and The National Parks and Wildlife Service organised an over 40's hurling match in September and the proceeds were recently presented to Mary Murphy of Offaly Hospice.
It was a great evening's entertainment where a motley crew of former Drumcullen players took on a team made up of wildlife rangers and former players from the Whitegate Club in County Clare. The match was the brainchild of Noel Bugler who in the past has represented both clubs.
Given the age profile and the varying fitness levels of the players the match, refereed by Simon Whelahan, consisted of two halves of 25 minutes and it proved to be a very close contest which was decided by a Ricky Bennett wonder goal for Drumcullen about five minutes from the end.
The event proved to be a great success and in the process it raised €1,220 for Offaly Hospice. Well done to all concerned.
