Offaly Travel To Kildare With Walsh Cup Semi Final Within Reach thumbnailConor Molloy passes the ball for Offaly.

OFFALY senior hurlers will travel to Hawkfield, the Kildare GAA training base outside Newbridge on Sunday as they close their group stage action of the Walsh Cup.

Having drawn with IT Carlow on Sunday - 3-14 to 0-23, Offaly and the Carlow college sit in joint first place in the group ahead of the final group games.

IT Carlow will take on Meath on Wednesday night and a win for the students in this one will leave Offaly needing to beat Kildare and needing to surpass the scoring difference of IT Carlow.

Offaly will be warm favourites to beat Kildare and it will serve as another chance for Kevin Ryan and his selectors to get another look at players without the pressures of the league.

With Galway to come in the opening round of the league, a semi final against a higher quality team would be beneficial to the Offaly men but should they make it through, they will square off against either Laois or Galway, both of whom they will meet in the league.

Last Sunday's game against IT Carlow saw Offaly snatch a draw deep in injury when Oisin Kelly found the net. Kevin Ryan and his managerial team are still without a number of key players while others are not long back involved.

It is early days but with the league less than a month away, business won't be long about picking up.
