Lowry 14th In AT And T Pro-Am In Pebble Beach

Thursday, 16 February 2017

SHANE Lowry gave another very encouraging performance when he finished tied 14th in the AT and T Pro-Am at Pebble Beach Golf Club in California last weekend.

It was another steady improvement by the Clara golfer, who was 33rd in his season opener, the Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego, before improving to 16th place at the Phoenix Open and has now jumped another two places.

It all augurs very well for his prospects this season as he prepares for this week's Genesis Open in Riviera, Los Angeles before returning home to be present as his wife, Wendy gives birth to their first child.

Once again, he played some excellent golf as he continues to search for the improvement to his putting that he hopes will really catapult him up the leader boards.

While Lowry will have been happy to finished 14th on -7 for the tournament, he was still a whopping twelve shots behind the run away winner, Jordan Spieth and those are the type of returns that he is now aiming for.

Still, there is clear evidence that he is not far off finding his very best game and some of his tee to green golf was superb, while his fantastic short game was also in evidence over there four days.

He had a -2 68 in Thursday's opening round with six birdies and four bogeys. On Friday, he had a bogey free -3 68 with birdies on the 2nd, 8th and 16th while Saturday's level par 72 included one birdie and one bogey. He finished off with a -2 69 on Sunday, with five birdies, one bogey and an unfortunate double bogey five on the 5th.

It was also Lowry's biggest pay day of the season as he won 108,160 and moved up to 51st in the world golf rankings.
