Maher Relieved To Finally Be Crowned Champions

Thursday, 30 March 2017

One of the four woman backroom team and a very relieved Catriona Maher agreed that they were lucky to get a second chance. ' We went nine points up with four minutes to go to the break and we took the foot off for a little while and ended up conceding a goal and a point. With a really strong wind and in fairness to Abbey they brought it back level and went three points up. With great hearth and determination we stuck with them and forced a goal to take us back here today' she said.
Highly complimentary of the hard grafting players, Maher agreed that the girls were far more up for the replay.
'They felt they left it behind them the last day and were determined that was not going to happen again. They stuck with the player they were marking one to fifteen and the girls we introduced from the bench as well, all doing exactly as they were told to do' said the champions manager.
Worried that the players might repeat last week's second half performance, Maher mentioned that the girls themselves knew what they had to do in the last half to win the game.
'They knew they had to work harder and stronger than last week and they did that even though Abbey came back at us and brought the game to within a point and Laura Shinnors, super last week and super again to - day and she got in for that super late goal.
'We switched Laura Leenane as well into full forward and it really paid off as she had a great game in fairness to her but one to fifteen and the girls we brought in gave it everything and we couldn't have asked for anything more from them' she mused adding 'I'm looking forward to parading the cup around the school corridors'.
