Big Weekend For Offaly Camogie As Two Leinster Final Dates Booked

Thursday, 18 May 2017

LAST Saturday proved a very fruitful day for Offaly Camogie as they booked their place in the Leinster Senior and Junior camogie finals.

The Juniors started the ball rolling by defeating Carlow in Coolderry early in the day before full focus shifted to Naas that evening where the Seniors easily accounted for Kildare to set up their final decider with reigning All Ireland champions Kilkenny.

The Juniors had a 2-11 to 1-8 win over Carlow with goals from Rebecca Hoctor and Niamh Walsh proving vital as they overcame a stubborn Carlow challenge. They now move on to a final with Wicklow.

The seniors saw their game delayed by 45 minutes due to a no show from the referee but they took that in their stride to record a 4-18 to 2-8 win over Kildare. Two goals from Triona McDonald inside the opening 10 minutes made sure that Offaly wouldn't be caught on the hop after beating Wexford in the quarter final.

Siobhan Flannery also found the net twice and the game was well put to bed by the time Kildare found the net twice in the second half.

There are no fixtures confirmed yet for the finals but they are expected to be the weekend after next with and at the one venue which would prove to be a massive day for Offaly Camogie and supporters.
