BIRR RFC was last week home to the Ireland U20 squad as they came to the Midlands for a two day training camp ahead of their world cup in Georgia next week.

Part of the squad training at Scurragh last week were Birr's own Jack Regan and Roscrea's Alan Tynan.

Second row Regan is once again part of the U20 squad following up his impressive showings in the Six Nations earlier this year while out half Tynan makes the world cup squad having missed out on the Six Nations cut.

The squad fly out on Friday to Georgia and they will face the All Blacks, Scotland and Italy in the group stages.

The two day camp in Birr saw the squad stay in the County Arms Hotel and also use the Birr outdoor education and training centre as part of their stay.

Jack Regan, son of former Offaly hurling great, Daithi, has been making great strides in his Rugby career and recently secured a move to Ulster having been on the academy books at Leinster.

Tynan plays his club Rugby with Young Munster and has recently secured a sub academy contract with the Province. He was a key player on the Cistercian College side that won the Leinster senior cup in 2015 and also played in the All Ireland minor hurling and football finals for Tipperary that same year.
