Kilruane Best Placed North Tipp Team In County SHC

Thursday, 8 June 2017

KILRUANE MacDonaghs are the best placed North Tipperary side to challenge for Dan Breen honours when the knockout stages arrive. Kilruane have just one game to play when they face Carrick Swans and the North club are odds on to win unless half the Kilruane team receive a mystery illness and are unable to play on the day.
The other game in Group 3 sees Nenagh Eire Og take on Thurles Sarsfields. A win for the Nenagh side would give them four points, the same as Thurles Sarsfields and Kilruane MacDonaghs and points difference at the moment doesn't sit well for the light blues. As the Group table indicates Nenagh Eire Og would need to beat Thurles by at least twelve points to reach the knockout stages. Is that possible against the best team in the county right now?
Prediction: Thurles Sarsfields and Kilruane MacDonaghs to advance. Carrick Swans to go down.
Group 1 was named the group of death and it has certainly lived up to its name. At the moment Loughmore Castleiney are in first place with three points, Kiladangan and Upperchurch Drombane come next with two and Borris-Ileigh are propping up the table with one point. Going into the final round the four teams have a chance of qualifying.
Of the four, Borris-Ileigh have the least chance of reaching the last eight as a lot will depend on score difference among the other teams. They must overcome Killenaule. It's the same for Kiladangan who face Loughmore Castleiney. It's a wide open group with Borris-Ileigh likely to drop down to the Seamus O'Riain next year
Prediction: Loughmore Castleiney and Upperchurch to advance. Borris-Ileigh to go down.
Both Portroe and Ballina produced a thrilling draw in the last round and the fact they drew gives them an outside chance of qualifying for the knockout stages. Clonoulty Rossmore's win over Drom Inch assures them of qualification but the likelihood of Portroe overcoming Clonoulty Rossmore in their final game is remote. At any rate they will need to win by at least fourteen points to have any chance of advancing. It's the same story for Ballina who will push Seamus Callanan's Drom Inch but a win here is most unlikely. Clonoulty and Drom Inch should advance.
Prediction: Clonoulty Rossmore and Drom Inch to advance. Portroe to go down to the Seamus O'Riain 2018.
Group 4
With full points from two games, Killenaule are definitely through but the race for the other place is wide open. Eire Og Anacarty are in second place with two points but they have a tough nut to crack when they take on Burgess. It's winner takes all unless Mullinahone slip one past Killenaule. It's a close one to call.
Prediction: Killenaule and Burgess to advance. Mullinahone to go down.
Seamus O'Riain Cup
Group 1
With full points out of two games and with a points difference of plus 10, Toomevara look home and hosed as they face Newport in their final game. Roscrea take on Ballingarry and they should win but at the same time will need a favour from Newport to be of assistance.
Group 2
Templederry are through with full points from two games. This leaves the outstanding game between Silvermines and Moycarkey Borris. The winner survives in senior for 2018 while the loser face a relegation battle.
Group 3
J K Brackens sit on top of Group 3 with three points and a plus 9 points difference. However they will have to sit it out as Clonakenny face Borrisokane in the last game. If Clonakenny win by at least ten points they will advance to the semi final and Borrisokane face a relegation battle.
Group 4
Holycross are safely through but the final game between Lorrha and Knockavilla has a survival tag for the winners with a relegation battle facing the losers.
