Munster Junior Cup: Portumna Town 4 Rearcross 1
Portumna advanced to the next stage of the Munster Junior Cup with a comfortable win over Rearcross, who traveled to Portumna for the fixture.
It was a game that Portumna controlled throughout, even though Rearcross got the first goal from a half clearance that was volleyed back high over the Portumna defence and dipped under the crossbar after ten minutes for their only score of the match.
Portumna had most of the possession and had a few shots and frees from outside the box but had to wait until the 37th minute for Kevin Brummell to strike well with his left into the bottom right of the Rearcross net from a ball by Ciaran Hough that was knocked down to Kevin by Ramy O'Hara.
The second half saw Niall Duffy come off with a groin strain after eight minutes to be replaced by Darragh Barry. Portumna struck their second goal on 59 minutes when Alan O'Meara found Patrick O'Sullivan just inside the D, he took a touch and placed his shot to the top right of the net.
Garry Curran was introduced for Ramy O'Hara and Ronnie Forde for Patrick O'Sullivan. Portumna got their third on 70 minutes when Kevin crossed a ball to the right side of the box for Alan O'Meara to strike low across the goal line at a tight angle. Sean O'Meara scored the fourth goal from a pass by Kevin Brummell.
John O'Meara in the Portumna net was tested a few times but dealt with all that Rearcross could throw at him, however, they will be disappointed that they did not convert at least one of their good chances when Portumna did not deal with some attacks more clinically. Ryan Hanrahan was introduced for Sean O'Meara and Mike Starr for Ronan O'Meara. There were no more goals and it ended Portumna Town 4 Rearcross 1.
Portumna have another home match this weekend coming, this time they play Kilsheelan from South Tipp in the FAI Junior Cup.
