Next weekend, Cloughjordan will host an All Island gathering of Circus Clubs for the Irish Youth Circus Club Festival, the first of its kind ever to be held on the island of Ireland!

The festival is being organised by Joanna Williams and her team from the Cloughjordan Circus Club. Established in 2011 Cloughjordan Circus Club holds weekly circus classes for those aged 8 to 80. Skills taught in the weekly classes include juggling, diabolo, stiltwalking, tightwire, hat manipulation, unicycle, hula hooping and more. Joanna has over 15 years of circus knowledge and training and has trained and taught with Skylight Circus Arts, Belfast Community Circus School and more recently with Circus Diaspora.

Since it[s establishment, the Cloughjordan club has become a thriving and vibrant circus club in the heart of Ireland. The club has performed in many St Patrick’s Day parades (winning a special award at the 2018 Limerick parade), local festival events and often invites in visiting experts to share new skills with the members.

For the weekend, young people from Youth Circus Projects in Derry, Lisburn, Belfast, Dublin and Galway will spend a weekend with teenagers from Cloughjordan, Nenagh and surrounding areas. Festival events will take place in different local halls, in the Thomas MacDonagh Museum and will provide opportunities for all to learn and share circus skills and make new friends with other young circus enthusiasts from around Ireland.

As well as a packed programme for club members, there will be a number of public events including free Schools Workshops offered to primary school classes in Cloughjordan and Kilruane during Friday morning, a cabaret in St Kieran’s Hall (which it is hoped will include the first ever All Ireland Human Pyramid!) and a showing of the film Even If I Fall about an inspirational Social Circus Project in Nepal working with young people and adults who have experienced hardship and human trafficking.

The Cloughjordan Irish Youth Circus Club Festival is being supported by the Cloughjordan Community Development Committee, Tipperary County Council and The Ireland Funds.
