Moneygall Development Association represented Offaly County Council in the National Pride of Place Awards and brought home the county's first ever Pride of Place Award.
The Development Association presented along with Dunkerrin Reaching Out and Cloncannon Bio Farm to showcase the tourism initiative in the area and that when communities work together that anything can be achieved. To celebrate this win the development association has organised a celebration night on Friday December 14 in the Church of Ireland Hall from 7.30pm. The night will also be an opportunity for local clubs and organisation to showcase themselves to people in our community and the clubs can set up from 9 pm on Thursday December 13.
Moneygall Development Association is also committed to continue develop the community following on from the successful implementation on their development plan “Moneygall Forward 2012-2017” and thanks to funding and supports from the Rural Development Programme they commenced a process of community engagement to establish their community requirements as they plan to 2025. This plan, facilitated and compiled by Catherine Corcoran an academic and practitioner, is the culmination of community engagement, consultation with Offaly Local Development Company, an input from local government and an alignment to national strategy for community development.
Their first community plan was ambitious and identified over 50 actions that were required to build and develop a community enjoyable for people to live and visit. They have delivered on the majority of the actions and now have begun this new phase to develop, support and enhance what they have started. They also want to ensure longevity of community projects and development into the future.
"Moneygall 2025" is their new vision for a bold and modern rural community, they want to become a healthier community with a strong focus on health and wellbeing along with a cleaner and healthier environment. The plan identifies opportunity for social enterprise and the continued enhancement of their community assets. They want to prosper and continue to expand opportunities for tourism and continue to preserve and protect their history and heritage. This plan is wide and expansive in its proposals and they invite you to read the plan, engage with them and help them fulfill these objectives by 2025.
They must acknowledge the supports and funding afforded to them by Offaly Local Development Company, Offaly County Council, IPB Insurance, Department of An Taoiseach, Department of Rural and Community Development and the continued support of local community members, business, Councillors and TD’s. It is important not only to have financial support but also to have viable supports to protect and preserve the work they implement on the community's behalf.
Moneygall Development Association also expresses their gratitude to members who established and worked to continue to develop Moneygall since 2011 and they are eternally grateful to all involved. They all can see how far they have come as a community in seven years and imagine where they will be in seven more, so please join in get involved and remember this is your plan, they are just here to help you implement it.
They are delighted to officially launch this seven year development plan at their community celebration on Friday December 14 at 7.30pm in the Church of Ireland Hall.
