Appeal For Volunteers

Our grateful thanks to all who have assisted in the running of the Monday Club since its commencement in 2014. The branch now wishes to strengthen its voluntary Monday Club team. It is quite a major commitment to give of one's time of two and half hours each Monday (except Bank Holidays). Voluntary duties include displaying words of songs on screen from their laptop to making and serving the all important cuppa. If interested please contact Marion Burke, Nenagh Support Group Co-ordinator, on (087) 2967296.

December 31 ended a very busy and successful year for the Parkinson's organisation in Tipperary with a diverse list of activities across the county. Prior to Christmas break they had Christmas Carols in the Community Hospital of the Assumption in Thurles. Thanks to Upperchurch Youth Choir who have performed at this event for many years.

Clonmel Support Group hosted their Annual Christmas Dinner in the wonderful cosy and warm Hotel Minella. Congratulations to co-ordinator Mary Finnegan on (086) 1224283 for the services she provides for Parkinson's members in the area. They welcome Suzanne Shanahan of Clonmel Support Group as a new member of the Branch Committee.

The Branch's Annual Remembrance Candle Lighting Ceremony for deceased members and those who are ill, in hospital, confined to the house or Nursing Homes was held in the Pastoral Centre, Nenagh. Officiating clergy were Rev. Smith Church of Ireland Rector, Nenagh and Rev. Fr Rexon, CC Nenagh Parish. Following their ceremony we had light refreshments and some music and songs. Thanks to Brendan Treacy, Rita Gleeson, Mary Shinnors, Margaret Walshe & Phyllis Marion Slattery and singers Noel Tomlinson, Nora Butler, Denis O'Connell, Jim Barry and hopefully they have not left anyone out. Thanks to all for participating and being a part of the group.

Wrapping up the activities for 2018 was Monday December 17 for Nenagh Monday Club Annual Christmas party with members in a happy seasonal mood bedecked with Christmas jumpers and hats. Marion Slattery, OT, surprised all with carefree exercises with balloons, all to appropriate Christmas music. Sheelagh Chadwick, Brendan Treacy, Rita Gleeson and Mary Shinnors and the members raised the rafters with Christmas Carols and Hymns, Amid all all the bedlam a bell rang out with the arrival of Santa Claus and Mrs Claus. A hearty welcome was extended to them. Santa had a heavy bag of gifts for the attendance but expressed a word of caution to a few members who were not doing their daily exercises at home and also recording their daily activities. On this occasion he and Mrs Claus and Elves had agreed to give all a gift but they would be watching for any naughty members in 2019.

2019 will be a busy and exciting year for the Branch with many events in the planning stage. Watch this space!
