The Cloughjordan Community Development Committee held their AGM on Thursday last in the Thomas MacDonagh Museum.

The committee is a registered charity and acts as an umbrella for up to ten local voluntary groups whose members share a deep commitment to the enhancement of their village. Each group has its own remit and objectives to follow and all meet on a monthly basis under the CCDC umbrella to support and co-ordinate actions.

The AGM heard how the CCDC is actively engaged in securing resources needed to deliver and enhance services for Cloughjordan and has made excellent use of public funding streams to deliver projects with tangible and lasting benefits. Examples highlighted were the First Steps Community Creche which today employs up to 13 people, the Thomas MacDonagh Museum and Public Library, local amenity trails developments, community education programmes with Tipperary Education and Training Board as well as a variety of Village Enhancement Scheme initiatives.

The AGM heard how the CCDC runs three annual community festivals, Christmas Festival of Light, National Bike Week and the Cloughjordan Biodiversity Week Festival. The AGM was told that through local trails development projects, the raised bog restoration LIFE project at Scohaboy Bog, the CCDC was an excellent example of how a community development group and state agencies can collaborate in delivering high value local amenity and conservation assets.

A noted feature of the depth of resources within the CCDC was noted by the fact that identified local needs were being addressed as well as the committee being involved in key international projects, such as the Cloughjordan - Kingdom Of Jordan Connects project. The AGM gave specific mention and thanks to the quality of support over the years from North Tipperary Development Company and Tipperary County Council.

Cloughjordan is a diverse, enterprising and vibrant community and the development committee is looking forward to building on the successes to date to further enhance the social and cultural life of Cloughjordan.
