First race of 2019 Offaly 5k Road Race series

Tullamore Harriers 5k

Tullamore Harriers hosted the first race of the Offaly 5k Road Race series on Sunday last. On a glorious sunny morning 587 athletes from within the county and further afield lined out to take on the 5000m race.

On closed roads, the race started on the Charleville Road, leading out towards Ballard, back around a loop and onto the Charleville Road again. The race finished on the track in Tullamore Harriers stadium. Online entry was with PopupRaces and further entries were taken on race morning.

While the club expected a large crowd, it was not anticipated that almost 600 people would participate. The atmosphere was super and the organisation of the event was faultless.

The next race in the series is the Naomh Ciaran 5k in Castlejordan on Sunday next March 31. Offaly Athletics encourages all clubs and athletes to support this next round of the series.

Offaly Athletics Mini League Round 2

The 2nd Offaly Athletics Mini League was a flying success last Sunday in the Tullamore Harriers Stadium. 80 young athletes from all over the county competed in Track & Field events today in a non championship meet. We had coaches and leaders from Offaly Athletic Clubs teaching and encouraging the children as they competed. Under leadership of Ciaran Farrelly the event was a huge success.

The juveniles divided onto teams of mixed club and gender. The events were: Ball Throw, Turbo Javelin, 60m Hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump, and relay competitions. After all the events Team 5 was deemed the winning team with 81 points. Team 1 had 76 points, Team 3 had 73 points, Team 4 had 72 points and Team 2 had 69 points.

Well done to all the athletes, the coaches and all who helped out today. This will give the juveniles huge confidence for the Offaly Juvenile Track and Field Championships on April 28.
